Literacy is defined as involving:
"listening and speaking, reading, writing, numeracy and using everyday technology to communicate and handle information. It includes more than the technical skills of communication: it has personal, social and economic dimensions." (NALA)
The Adult Literacy Service operates throughout County Limerick. It provides a free and confidential service to those who want to improve their communication skills, i.e. reading, writing, numeracy and information technology.
It offers
- Courses tailored to the needs and interests of learners;
- One to one or group tutoring up to and including FETAC level three;
- A wide variety of FETAC accredited courses and also non-accredited courses;
- Computer-aided learning on all programmes.
Classes are primarily held in the Adult Literacy Centres at Kilmallock and Newcastlewest. However, classes are also available in a range of community based settings. Please contact the Adult Education Officer at County Limerick V.E.C. Head Office
